Dr. Poettcker graduated from The University of Texas Chemical Engineering School in Austin, with Honors, in 1974. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1977 and completed The General Surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio 1982. He joined Surgical Associates of the Mid-Cities in 1984 after two years in McKinney, Texas.

Dr. Poettcker is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has served as the Chief of the Department of Surgery, Chief of Medical Staff and Chairman of the Board of Trustees  in the medical Community in Northeast Tarrant County.

He prides himself in being qualified to provide the full range of general surgery services; including hernia repairs, thyroid surgery, colon and rectal surgery,and laparoscopic gallbladder removal.
